Project : Northland Power Ground Mount Solar Projects

Northland Power, Inc. — Province of Ontario

CHA and CHA Canada provided Ontario Power Authority (OPA) independent engineering services for thirteen NPI 10 MW ground mount solar projects located throughout Ontario. The scope of work included a full project document review of all civil, structural and electrical items to ensure the equipment installation was completed in compliance with OPA requirements and ready for commercial operation. In addition, the solar sites were visited to verify the installation was completed in accordance with the construction drawings and a 90% Net Power Output calculation was carried out for each site.

On nine of these projects, the scope of work also included a full detailed design and project drawing review to ensure the design was in compliance with the requirements of the owner's contract documents, Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), interconnection utility standards, and industry best practices. Technical reviews also included all required electrical and power system studies and equipment specifications, plus a full civil and structural review of each project's site grading, stormwater management, access roads, solar photovoltaic (PV) rack system, and the rack's post foundation designs. Each project was comprised of a main 44 kV/27.6 kV, 27.6 kV collection system, protection and control system, automated SCADA package, inverter houses, and DC collection systems.
